He was the second child of Charles M. and Jane Elizabeth Durkee, and remained at home with his parents, attending school until he became of age. He was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie L. Brown of Belle Plains, Ia., December 19, 1881. They settled on the farm in Berlin Township, Ionia County, where he lived 39 years and which he owned at time of his death. In 1920 he purchased the home at 206 East Main Street, city of Ionia, where he enjoyed the remaining years of his life. Mrs. Durkee preceded him in death five years ago. He was lovingly cared for by his daughter, Wava, during his last illness. There remains at home Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sherriff and daughter, Doris, and Mrs. Carrie Sheriff. Several nephews and nieces are left with a host of friends to mourn. There were several young people who made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Durkee over a period of years. Among them were Joe Matthews (deceased), Mrs. Mable Williams, Mrs. Lola Riblet and Mrs. Marvel Church.
