Durst, 79, of Potters Road, died at his residence Saturday morning. He was born in Hungary, June 27, 1899, the son of Matthew and Anna Szloboda Durst. He came to the U.S. in 1908, settling in Colorado with his parents. On March 8, 1921 he married Anna Stomp in Chicago where they made their home for one year, before moving to Grand Rapids where they lived for 18 years. They then moved to Ionia area, where they’ve resided for the past 31 years. He was a tool and die maker, having worked at General Motors, Grand Rapids, most of his life, retiring in 1965. He also farmed at his residence for many years and was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Anna; two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Evelyn) Schusta of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Viola VanDam of Grand Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, William of Grand Rapids; one sister, Mrs. James (Margaret) Viszler of Grand Rapids. Funeral mass will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Father Henry Dondzila will officiate. Committal service will be at the church with burial in Easton cemetery. Scriptural wake will be at the Leddick funeral home this evening (Monday) at 7:30 p.m. The family will be at the funeral home this evening (Monday) from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society and contribution can be left at the funeral home.
