Feb. 16, 1988 DOROTHY A. DURST IONIA - Dorothy A. Durst, 46, of Ionia died Feb. 13, from accidental injuries. She was the daughter of David and Violet Nothnagel Schulert and was born Jan. 24, 1940 in Lansing. A former member of the board of education of Ionia Public Schools, she served on the board for nine years. She was currently teaching at the DeWitt Elementary Schools in DeWitt and was actively involved in 4-H Club programs at both the state and county levels. She had taught adult education courses for the Ionia-Lakewood school systems, she was involved in the Adult Literary Program, and she was a founder of the Gifted and Talented Children/Parent group in Ionia. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and of the First united Methodist Church of Ionia. Surviving are her husband John (Jack); two sons, Roger Durst of Austin, Texas, and Steven Durst of Grand Rapids; three daughters, Tammy, Amy and Helen, all at home; and her parents, David and Violet Schuert of Grand Ledge. Also surviving are three brothers, David Schulert of Mulliken, Paul Schulert and Bruce Schulert, both of Grand Ledge; four sisters, Mrs.Robert (Judy) Thoresen of Grand Rapids, Mrs.Larry (Norma) Pryer, Mrs. Tom (Joy) Ruby, and Violet R. Schulert, all of Grand Ledge, and many nieces and nephews. Complete funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Ionia First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Keith Bovee officiating. Memorials have been established for 4-H Club programs, Ionia County Council for the Arts, and the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by Cook funeral Home. Ionia Sentinel Standard-Wed. Feb. 17, 1988 DOROTHY A. DURST IONIA - Funeral services for Dorothy A. Durst of Ionia were held Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Keith Bovee officiated. Organist was Marilyn Brill. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetry. A memorial service was held Monday at the Cook Funeral Home Rich Street Chapel by the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. The pallbearers were Tom Ruby, Larry Pryor, Mark Schulert, Robert Thoresen, Mike Seigo, and Scott Pryor. A luncheon was served for the family and friends at the First United methodist Church following services.
