DUTCHER Portland William B. Dutcher, age 91 of Portland passed away December 1, 2016. William was born August 13, 1925 to Sylvester and Bernita (Simmons) Dutcher. He was the first mail carrier in Portland and worked for the Portland Post Office for over 35 years and was a farmer. Bill was a sports fanatic who loved the Tigers, U of M, and the Redwings. He enjoyed fishing with his long-time friend, Dick Willemin and was an avid reader of his beloved Detroit News. he was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Bill married his wife, Joyce (Townsend) on July 29, 1948. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marylin Balderson; and brother-in-law, Richard Bigford. Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce (Townsend) Dutcher; children, Mary Kay (George) Johnson, Patrick Dutcher, Douglas Dutcher, and Nancy (David) Spitzley; grandchildren, Johnathon Johnson, Colin Hoppes, and Nicholas Hoppes; great-grandchildren, Landon, Haven, and Cruze Hoppes; sister Ellen Bigford; and brother-in-law, Tom Balderson. There will be a mass offered for Bill on December 31, 2016 at 4:30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Athletic Association or the Father Flohe foundation in memory of Bill.
