The Ionia Daily Standard, Thursday, November 12, 1903
During the thunder storm Wednesday morning, James Dutcher, a Danby farmer, 
went to the field to cover some beans.  He did not return, and his wife found 
his lifeless body at daybreak.  He had been struck by lightning while in the 
act of laying a board over the bags.  The shock tore his boots off.
