George H. Dye, 83, former city and county official and Ionia businessman, died in an Ionia convalescent home Saturday afternoon about 1:30. He had been a patient there two days and lived at 628 Hackett street for many years. He had been ill for the past eight and one-half years. He was born May 25, 1874 on what is known on the Minty farm on North Jefferson street the son of George and Emily Dye. He lived most of his life in Ionia. He was married November 27, 1901 to Neva Ross and at that time operated the city laundry. For several years he was Ionia city treasurer and from 1914 to 1918 was Ionia county register of deeds. In the early 1920s he lived at Marquette where he was collector of internal revenue and during 1932 and 1933 was receiver of the bank at Hastings. He also operated his own collection agency in Ionia several years and in the early 1930s was employed at the Michigan Reformatory. He has been retired for the past ten years. Surviving besides his wife, Neva, are two nephews, Van Dye of Ionia, and Harry Dye of Detroit, and one cousin, Royal Dye of Los Angeles. Funeral service will be held from the Boynton funeral home Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock with the Rev. H.S. Ellis of Belding, officiating. Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery. It is requested that flowers be omitted.
