Jan. 11, 2013 Raymond R. Dyer, 84, of Lyons passed away Jan. 10, 2013 at his home with his family member at his side. He was born Aug. 12, 1928 in Orange Twp., the son of Ralph and Myrtle (Guernsey) Dyer. He married Betty M. Townsend in June of 1947. Ray attended Gorham School, and would later work for the Ionia Chair Company, Stafford Furniture Company, Ionia Pottery, Pesecke Packing Company, Michigan Shade Tree Company and Consumers Energy where he worked for 28 years before retiring. He is survived by his wife Betty Dyer of Lyons; children Robert (Marian) Dyer of Fenwick, Judith (Pat) Soeltner of Lyons, Jack (Niki) Dyer of Portland and Jeannie (Jeff) Huff of Fenwick. Eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emery and Jessie Guernsey; mother, Myrtle Dyer; brother, Ralph Dyer; uncle Clarence and aunt Mildred Guernsey, who raised him as her son; also Leo Allen who was raised as a brother; and one infant son who died at birth. Ray loved his work as a tree trimmer. He built 11 houses including his own where he lived until his death. His family would like Raymond to be remembered for his love to Betty, kids and grandkids. Also for his caring helping ways not only to his family, but all his friends whenever they were in need of a helping hand. Ray had a love of deer hunting and trapping or just being in the woods, giving a good home to dogs and cats throughout his life. He had a gifted ability to make a dollar turn into five through hard work, and a joy of tinkering in his pole barn to fix the unfixable. Ray was an avid fan of western and country music. He had a witty sense of humor and jokes to always get a laugh. A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia County Animal Shelter or Ionia Area Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com.
