DYER
Betty Marie Dyer, age 93 of Lyons, passed away November 23, 2020. She was born 
August 12, 1927 in Lyons at their family's home the daughter of Fay E. and Marie 
(Bissell) Townsend.

Betty's family moved from Lyons to her father's family farm in Pewamo when she 
was six. She often would share her memories of walking miles in all kinds of 
weather to attend school, of which she referred to as the little red school 
house.

With the passing of her father when she was 8, Betty's family moved back toLyons 
into the same house she was born. She attended school Lyons graduating 
valedictorian of her class in 1945. Betty then moved to Ionia where she worked 
as a secretary for Webster Attorney at Law.

She married Raymond June 12, 1947. During their 66 years of marriage she helped 
Ray build 11 houses and raise 4 children all while working at various jobs for 
Chrysler Corporation, Ionia County Club and Arden Corporation in later years  
she enjoyed time with her grandchildren when they would spend the night, trips 
to breakfast, playing cards, puzzles and board games. Later in life she moved 
her mother, Marie, into her home so she could care for her until she passed away 
in 1994. Betty lived in her own home that she helped build in 1954 until her 
health started to decline in June. She then moved in with her daughter and son -
in-law before moving to Portland Assisted Living.

She will be sadly missed by her family. Sons, Robert Dyer of Fenwick and Jack 
(Niki) Dyer of Portland. Daughters, Judy (Pat) Soeltner of Lyons and Jean (Jeff) 
of of Florida. Grandchildren, Cammie, Ted, Beth, Jessica, Matt, Nick, Callie, 
and Bailey. Great-grandchildren, Lance, Ricky, Whisper, Crish, Bud, Cody, Ben, 
Allison, Luke, Jax and Dray. Several great-great-grandchildren, Step sisters, 
Katherine Higbee of Ionia and Marjorie Stine of New York.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 2013 after 66 years of 
marriage: infant son at birth; father Fay Townsend; other Marie Townsend 
Johnson; brothers Alvin and Robert Townsend; grandparents, Ray and Sara Townsend 
and Elmer Bissell and Lula Vance; step-father Charles Johnson;3 step-brothers 
and 3 step sisters.

Cremation has taken place and there was a graveside service held Saturday, 
November 28th at 11:00 at Tuttle Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Lake Funeral
