Dyke, 64, Berlin Center resident injured in a peculiar accident on M-66 south of here on January 4. Dyke, who was removed to the Grand Rapids hospital shortly after the accident, died late Saturday as the aftermath of the loss of both his legs, one being severed near the ankle at the time of the accident, the other amputated above the knee at the hospital later because of mutilation. Dyke was struck by a car driven by Marion Thorpe, 20, of Portland near the county airport as he attempted to wipe frost off the windshield of his automobile during a heavy pre-dawn fog, sheriff’s officers reported, resulting in a subsequent pileup of several other cars. Body Brought Here Funeral services will be held at the Berlin Center Methodist church Wednesday at 2 o’clock, with interment in Highland Park cemetery. In the meantime the remains will repose at the Myers funeral home here and will lie in state at the church from noon until 2 o’clock Wednesday. Dyke is survived by his wife, Gladys; two daughters, Mrs. Sheila Reed, of Ionia, and Patricia Lou, at home; two brothers, Curtis and Frank of Ionia; a sister, Mrs. Bert Fuller, Hubbardston, and two grandchildren, Sharon and Larry Reed, of Ionia. For many years Dyke had been employed in local industries, having been identified with the Stafford plant the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture company, and at one time was co-owner of a restaurant here.
