Dysinger, being the victim. The child had returned from down town on an errand and on entering the house with the things sent for, said that she was hungry. Her mother replied that she would build a fire and get dinner and says to her five years old daughter, "Come on Gracie and get some chips and we will build a fire," as there had been no fire in the stove since morning, mother and daughter went out the back door and the childe picked up two or three pieces of barrel staves and going into the house placed the kindling in the stove. Her mother called for her to come out and get som kindling.There was a cry from the child and soon the horror stricken mother saw her child wrapped in flames. She rushed to the house grabbed the child and with frantic efforts endeavored to smother out the flames, with her own dress and at the same time beating the flames with her hands until they were blistered. The mother finely succeeded inputting it out and carrying the child out doors cried for help. A number of people were soon present. Some one gave the alarm of fire which caused the fire bell to be rung in consequence of which a large number of people were brought to the scene. Dr.Day being present, hurriedly went back to his office and returned immediately with his case and administered to the child's sufferings.Her left arm and left leg were burned quite badly as well as about the abdomen. The fingers of the left hand were burned to the bone, caused by her beating the blaze with her little arm, she being left handed.Everything was done to make her comfortable and she seemed easier at this writing.The child says that she lighted a piece of paper and endeavored to put in the stove and her dress caught fire from it. There was no kerosene or gasoline about the stove.
