Portland Advertiser - March 13, 1907

John R. Davids, one of the very earliest settlers of Danby, died at his home in the 
southeast part of the township last Wednesday morning, aged more than 82 years. He was 
formerly a familiar figure on the streets of Portland, this having been his trading point for 
years and he was well known throughout Eaton and Ionia counties. Funeral services were 
conducted from his late home Saturday afternoon..
