N. D. Potter, pastor, preaching the burial service. It was such a service as one would expect to witness in this little inland village, where the deceased has been known as friend and neighbor these many years. From every part of Ronald Township old time friends gathered to pay their last loving respects to the memory of a real pioneer of Ionia County. With bowed heads they listened to the pastor, himself visibly affected, extol the virtues of a man who came into the township as a mere boy, and who had lived in the fullness of this years loved and respected by those who had known him in this life. With the death of Mr. Eavey a married life of nearly 61 years came to a close – almost as a benediction – for he had often expressed in recent months that the journey of life was nearing its end and when it finally came would find him ready and willing to go forth into that beautiful mystery – the journey that ends in the sunrise on the morrow. His death last Thursday evening October 24, came with a suddenness that shocked not only the members of the little family circle, but the entire community as well. During the day he had not been feeling his old self, but as there were no alarming symptoms no anxiety was felt as to his condition. It was just as he was about to join with the rest of the family at the supper table that the hand from another world touched him on the shoulder and with a smile he went out into eternity to take his place at another table where the viands care of a kind that never perish, and to partake of them is life eternal. Burial was made in the little village cemetery across the way from the church where the forefathers of the hamlet sleep. As the body was being lowered to its final resting place the golden October sun broke through the clouds almost as a promise that a life so full of earth’s richness would not end at the grave but there would have its beginning. Mr. Eavey was born in Wayne County, Ohio, March 11, 1845, and departed this life October 24, 1929, aged 84 years, 7 month and 13 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Viola Mosher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Mosher, pioneers of Ionia County on January 30, 1869, at the home of the bride in Ronald Township. Rev. Stone, pastor of the Woodard Lake Disciple church performing the marriage ceremony. Three children were given to this union, Kittie, Cecil and Earl, all of whom with the father having passed away. Following the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Eavey, they purchased a farm one mile west of the Ronald Literary hall, where they resided for 45 years, moving to Palo 17 years ago shortly after the death of their daughter, Mrs. Fred Gauss. It was with reluctance that they left the farm, where so many happy years had been spent but they went to make a home for their granddaughter, now Mrs. (Turn to Page 16, No. 2) (Page 16 not available) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/e/eavey13145nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 3.6 Kb
