Leila I. Echter, 95, of Belding, passed away Friday morning, May 17, 2002, at
Metron of Belding Nursing Home.  She was born Aug. 15, 1906, in Orleans
Township, the daughter of Will and Alice Melle Mason.  In 1926, she married
Ralph Wheeler, in Orleans Township.  He preceded her in death in 1977.  In 1979,
she married Franz Echter, in Belding.  He preceded her in death on June 9, 2001.

Leila is survived by her daughter, Barbara Wheeler of Lansing; a son and
daughter-in-law, Clay and Betty Wheeler of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husbands; a
daughter, Elda Watson in 1997; her parents; and her brothers and sisters, Clara,
Charles, Birdie, Carl, Ralph, Rosa, Nathan and Evelyn.

In keeping with Leila’s wishes, no visitation or services will be held. 
Interment is in Greene Cemetery, Orleans Township.  Memorial contributions may
be made to the Belding Museum or a charity of ones choice.  Funeral arrangements
were entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
