J.S. Deabler assisted by Rev. A J Hettler Conducted Services. Burial at Lakeside. The funeral of Miss Rose Eckardt was largely attended at the Evangelical church last Friday afternoon. The services were impressive, the Rev. J. S. Hettier, a former pastor, officiated. The singing of very appropriate song was by Mr and Mrs Harold Smith. The pall bearers were George and Benjamin Schneider, Charles Harms, Bert Sawdy, Karl Eckardt, and Jesse Rowlander of Nashville. OBITUARY Rose Eckardt, daughter of Phillip Frederick and Anna Barbara Eckardt, was born March 5, 1865 and passed away October 22, 1940, at the age of 75 years, seven months and 17 days. She was converted at the age of eleven years under the ministry of Rev. C. Ude and lived a consistent Christian life to the end. She joined the Evangelical church at the time of her conversion and always showed a great interest and concern in every department that the work of the Lord should go forward. She was a successful Sunday school teacher for many years and played the organ for church service for better than 15 years. She also acted as lay delegate to the annal conference a number of times and was an active member of the Woman's Missionary society. She was always interested in the welfare of others by her deeds of kindness and words of sympathy. She had been in failing health for the past four years, at time being confined to her bed. Friday she fell and broke her hip and was then taken to Pennock hospital where she passed away Tuesday afternoon about 4:30 o'clock. She leaves to mourn her departure two sister, Mrs.Mary Kunz of Grand Rapids, Mrs Lydia Schuler of Woodland, and one brother Fred Eckardt, who lived near her, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. "The End Of The Way" My life is a wearisome journey, I'm sick with the dust and the heat, The rays of the sun beat upon me, The briars are wounding my feet; But the City to which I am going Will more than my trials repay, All the toils of the road will seem nothing, When I get to the end of the way. Cooling fountains are there for the thirsty; There are cordials for those who are faint; There are robes that are whiter and purer Than any that fancy can paint; Then I'll try to push hopefully onward Thinking often through each weary day, The toil of the road will seem nothing When I get to the end of the way.
