Eckardt, 85, of 7785 Saddlebag Lake Road, Lake Odessa, died Tuesday afternoon at Pennock hospital in Hastings where he had been a patient since August 28. He was born August 17, 1891, in Woodland township, the son of Christian and Anna Wagner Eckardt. A 1909 graduate of Woodland High School, he married Florence Henderson November 16, 1920 in Allegan. He was a life long resident and farmer in Barry County; a charter member of the Barry County Farm Bureau, a member of the Barry county soil conservation group and a life member of Lakewood United Methodist church. He had served as treasurer of the church for several years. Mr. Eckardt also served on the Woodland School and Lake Odessa cooperative elevator boards. He is survived by his wife; one son, Bruce, of rural Lake Odessa; a daughter and son-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Raymond (Joyce) Scott of Berthout, Colorado and eight grandchildren. The body is at the Pickens-Koops funeral chapel until services Friday at 11:30 am at the Lakewood United Methodist church. Rev. Charles Dunbar of the Lakewood United Methodist church will officiate. Burial is in Woodland Memorial park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist church.
