Eckert, age 81, of Coldwater, formerly of Ionia, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at the Laurels of Coldwater. She had been in failing health. She was born Dec. 5, 1923 in Jackson, the daughter of Harry and Ethel (Boulter) Campbell and lived most of her life in Ionia. She graduated from Central High School in Grand Rapids in 1942 and married Max Eckert on March 21, 1944 in Texas. They later divorced. Jean worked as a waitress at the Ionia Hotel for 21 years. She later worked at Revco Drugs in Ionia for 15 years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed gardening, doing yard work outdoors and loved caring for her dogs. Surviving are her daughter Brenda Platte of Portland, daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Gary Gump of Burr Oak, sons, James Eckert of Belding, and William Eckert of Mecosta; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a brother Donald Campbell of Holly. She was preceded in death by her two beloved dogs, “Bear” and “Wei-lang”. Graveside funeral services will be held at Balcom cemetery in Ionia at a later date. Arrangements are by the Kolcz Funeral Home of Bronson. Memorial Donations may be made to the Heartland Hospice in Kalamazoo.
