Alfred Eckstrom Dies at Grant

Alfred E. Eckstrom, 85, of Grant, passed away Saturday at the Grant Community 
Hospital after a long illness.

He was born on Aug. 28, 1884, in Newaygo and as a young man lived in Sparta, 
Kent City and Grand Rapids area. He married Ella Saur on Sept. 7, 1921, in Grand 
Rapids.

He was a former hardware store owner and muckland farmer until his retirement in 
1965.

He was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Kent City, a former Grant 
village president and councilman, a former Kent County deputy sheriff and Grant 
village Volunteer Fire Department chief. He was a member of Casnovia Masonic 
Lodge No. 461, F&A.M., Dewitt Clinton Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 
of Grand Rapids and Saladin Shrine Temple of Grand Rapids.

He is survived by his wife, Ella; one daughter, Mrs. George (Donna) Rossiter of 
Keene, N.H.' one son, William Eckstrom, superintendent of Lakewood Schools, Lake 
Odessa; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Mamrelund Lutheran Church, 
Kent City, with Pastor Donald Johnson officiating. Interment was in Greenwood 
Cemetery at Sparta.
