F. Edson wandered near the railroad track Tuesday morning, and was struck by the 7:25 train, fracturing its skull. The child is still alive, but there is little hope of its recovery. The mother saw him and ran to his rescue, but was too late. The shock was so great that she lay for sometime in a precarious condition. This family seems to be a sadly afflicted one, and have the sympathy of the entire community. Friday, 15 October 1897: The little Edson child injured by a passing train, died from the effects and was buried Saturday afternoon, the Rev. F. E. Stowell of the F. M. church officiating. An inquest was held, and the verdict of the jury was that the child came to its death by injuries received from a passing train through the negligence of the engineer. There is, however, a diversity of opinions with regard to the verdict and what the outcome will be, remains to be seen.
