Portland Observer – Wednesday, 4 August 1897
Mrs. Frank Edson of Lansing, formerly Miss Jennie Courtney of this village, 
where she worked as a domestic, and a daughter of W. H. Courtney of Orange, 
was fatally injured in a runaway at Lansing last Sunday morning by the horse 
she was driving on the way to church throwing her and a neighbor’s daughter 
from the buggy.  Her skull was fractured but the little girl was uninjured.  
She died on the following day from the result of her injuries and her remains 
brought to Portland on Tuesday night and conveyed to the home of her father in 
Orange, and funeral services held on Thursday.  The unfortunate young woman 
was but 21 years of age and had been married less than a month.   Her home was 
near Pleasant Grove near Lansing.
