Mary S. Edwards, 77, of Saranac passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 in Grand 
Rapids. 

She was born April 15, 1924 in Ionia, the daughter of Lee and Agnes (Humphreys) 
Schafer.  She went on to marry Claude Edwards Nov. 27, 1945 at SS. Peter and 
Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.  She was a loving wife and mother.  

She was valedictorian of her class at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School class 
of 1941.  She was also a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. 

She is survived by her sons, David (Karen) Edwards of Ionia and Michael Edwards 
of Saranac; daughters, Lynn (Paul II) Gallagher of Saranac, Cheryl (Bruce) 
Patterson of Ionia, Jan (Kevin) McBride of Kentwood, Molly (Owen) Wigfield of 
Saranac and Julie (Dudley) Larson of Lowell; brothers, Dick (Trude) Schafer of 
Ionia, Pete (Mary) Schafer of Ionia and Bob (Arleen) Schafer of Ionia; sisters, 
Luella Boyd of Orleans and Virginia (Cecil) McKenna of Florida; 15 
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Edwards Aug. 23, 1999 and 
three sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul 
Catholic Church in Ionia, with Father Melvin Fox celebrant.  Interment will be 
Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Family will receive friends and relatives at the catholic 
church one hour prior to service.

Arrangements were made by Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.  Anyone wishing may 
make a memorial contribution to SS. Peter and Paul School fund or the American 
Cancer Society, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
