Sept. 12, 2012 Belding- Franklin G. "Mike" Edwards, 79, of Ionia, died Sunday evening, Sept. 9, 2012 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Mike was born on May 17, 1933, in Ronald Township, Ionia County, the son of George and Frieda (Grill) Edwards. He graduated from Ionia High School with the class of 1951 and served for 30 years in the United States Army. He later worked as a welder at Gibson's in Greenville, retiring in 1996. Mike attended First Baptist Church in Belding. He enjoyed going to all of his grandchildren's sporting events and helped at the Commission on Aging in Ionia. He was married on May 12, 1966, to Lorane (Insley) Francisco and she survives along with their children, Clyde and Brenda Francisco, Shane and Dawn Francisco, Gordon and Carol Francisco. all of Ionia, Dixie and Scott Sandborn on Portland, Matthew Edwards of Ionia, Lynn Edwards of Alaska. Mike is also survived by his grandchildren, Shawn, Magen, Josef, Alex, Stacy, Aime, Jake, Kendall, Jenna, Anna, Alexis, Aleah and Aleyse; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Dominic, Kysa, Kendall and Spencer; and a sister in law, Francis Edwards of Ionia. Mike was preceded by his parents and one brother, Lloyd. Memorial services will be noon Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Belding, with Pastor Bruce Burfield officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour before the service at church. A luncheon will take place after the service at church. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial gifts to the Belding Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service or Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding where funeral services have been entrusted.
