Ionia Sentinel Standard, 7 May 1980

Charabell J. Edwards, 78, of rural Lyons, and formerly a long-time Ionia
resident died Tuesday morning at the Ionia Manor.  She was born in Petosky, Oct.
29, 1901 the daughter of Claude and Chara Rockey Brockway.  The family moved to
Belding and then to Ionia where she attended schools and graduated from Ionia
High School.  

She was married to Leo A. Edwards in Ionia on December 22, 1921.  They made
their home here all their married life.  He preceded her in death Sept. 18, 1964.

She had worked for many years in the Ionia County Extension Service and the last
20 years for the extension service at the Ionia Courthouse.  She retired as
office manager.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ionia, a
charter member of the CCW class at the church and a former Sunday School Teacher.

She is survived by four sons, Claude of Lyons, Stanley of Ionia, Kenneth of
Atwater, Calif., and Gerald of Lyons, one daughter, Mrs. John (Marjorie) Beckett
of Portland; a son, Stuart preceded her in death in 1935.  Also surviving are 24
grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. from the First Baptist
Church in Ionia with the Rev. Dr. Roy Pitts officiating.  Burial will be in
Balcom Cemetery.  Mrs. Edwards reposes at the Leddick Funeral Home where the
family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m.
and 7-9 p.m.  Memorial funds have been established for the First Baptist Church
Building Fund and also for the Cancer Society.  Contributions may be left at the
funeral home.
