Edwards, 84, a former resident of this city, died Friday, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Mo. after a lingering illness. He was a graduate of Smithdeal Business College, Richmond, Va. and came to Belding in 1897 where he operated a Shoe Store on Main St. for 20 years. He was born in Ronald Township, Ionia County, April 18, 1878. He had been a resident of Springfield, Mo. for four years and previous to that time lived in Ionia and Palo. He was married to Ida Spencer in 1900 and she preceded him in death. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. F.M. Steele and Miss Edith Edwards both of Detroit and Mrs. Morgan (Eleanor) Smith, Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Alfred Saxon, Lyons, four grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home with Rev. H.S. Ellis officiating, assisted by Belding Lodge, No. 355, F.&A.M. Burial was in River Ridge Cemetery.
