Edwins had been married about 3 years, his wife being formerly Miss Etta Sprinket of Nashville. For the past six weeks Mrs.Edwins had been home caring for her mother in her fatal sickness returning to her home Sunday. Added, complaints and suspicions being brought to her notice of her husband's improper relations wit Mrs.Laura Youngs a domestic at the Walsh hotel, the two being together then probably, she was prevailed upon to repeat her complaint to Deputy Sheriff Cole with the request that the two be trapped and captured if possible. Late that night Cole with Stephen Sprinket a brother of Mrs.Edwins and John Roup, her brother-in-law left Sunday for the Edwin's house, they heaving been informed that the pair were together there. Upon arriving at the house Cole demanded admission and a surrender of themselves. This Edwins refused to do and replied further that he had a gun and would shoot. There upon Cole nothing daunting him broke through the window into the bedroom, necessarily pushing over a bureau. He was met with a bullet from Edwins gun which cut open his wrist. A struggle followed with an exchange of shot, Edwins not giving up until finally shot through abdomen. The woman in the case was take to Charlotte but finally released on account of lack of testimony. Edwins was placed under the doctors care but sunk rapidly and passed away Wednesday mornin. On complaint of Edwin's father, Cole was placed under arrest under charge of murder and thus we see the beginning of what may prove possibly to be a long drawn out sensational and otherwise most unpleasant result of good sense and self control.
