Eldridge, 92, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, August 16, 2004, from Metron of Greenville. The oldest of three children, he was born to Clifton and Myrtle Millard Eldridge on October 13, 1911, in Lyons. In the 1930s, Win was a crew chief in the 685th Company of the Civilian Conservation Corps, Camp Sturgeon, Alston. On April 6, 1940, at the parsonage of the Rev. H. Ellis in Belding, he married Dorothy I. Bradshaw. The Rev. Ellis had married five generations of Dorothy’s family. Win retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Co. in 1976 after more than 37 years of working in the 04 metal finishing department. For many years he also did lawn work at Citizens Choice Credit Union. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, previously been a member of First Church of God and also belonged to the UAW Local 137. Win loved to dance and sing and was seen sitting in the bleachers singing along with the choir performers at his children’s and grandchildren’s school and church programs. He was an enthusiastic baseball and football fan who loved the Detroit Tigers and Lions. His family could always count on him to be cheering them on when they played sports. Going to and helping with garage sales was one of his favorite pastimes, as well as hunting for mushrooms. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren was a real joy to “Grandpa Pooh.” He will be greatly missed by those who remember him for his crazy sense of humor and love of life. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Eldridge; their children, Charles and Diantha Eldridge, Patricia and Ed Gooding, all of Greenville; grandchildren, Jeff and Suzie Eldridge of Rockford, Cheryl and Tony Taylor of Ashley, Pastor Timothy and Angie Hyde, Annette and Greg Merren, also of Greenville, Jon and Patty Eldridge of Sheridan, Lisa Hopp of Coopersville; step grandson, Trevor and Heather Collier of Alma; 13 great-grandchildren; special nephew, Ronald and Shelva Conrad of Sheridan; special niece, Carol and Bill Reed of Stanton; and many other family and friends. Win also loved animals and leaves behind one spoiled cat, Precious. A celebration of Win’s life is 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. R. Mark Shaw, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Envelopes for memorial contributions to either the Calvary Baptist Church building fund or the First Church of God children’s ministry are available at the funeral home, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
