The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, September 1961

Mrs. Grace L. Elliott, 70, died at an Ionia convalescent home Tuesday at 9:30 
p.m.  She had been in failing health several months.  

She was born in Jefferson City, Mo., January 7, 1891, the daughter of Mr. and 
Mrs. John C. Beattie, and with the exception of a few years in Grand Rapids, 
had spent most of her life in Ionia.  She attended and graduated from Ionia 
high school and for a number of years managed the Ionia City hospital.  She 
was later employed at the Bureau of Social Aid in Ionia and Grand Rapids, 
retiring from that capacity within the past few years.

Survivors include a son, H. R. Elliott of East Lansing; a brother, John 
Beattie of Clarksville; three sisters, Mrs. Nelson Austin of Columbus, Ohio, 
Mrs. Donald Sperry of Chicago, and Mrs. Herman Dietz of Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral service will be conducted at Phelps funeral chapel by the Rev. Roy 
Schram of Peoples church in East Lansing, Friday at 2 p.m.  Interment will be 
at Highland Park cemetery.  The family will be at the chapel Thursday evening 
from 7 until 9 p.m. to receive friends.
