Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2000

Belding – Mary E. Ellis, 85, of Belding, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at 
Hackley Hospital, Muskegon.  She was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Belding, the 
daughter of Donald and Eliza Caverley.  Mary was a member of the Silk City 
Quilters and was the oldest graduate of the adult education program in Belding 
Schools.

She was married on Sept. 19, 1952 in Grand Rapids to George Ellis.  He preceded 
her in death on March 18, 1998.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; 
her brothers and sister, Don, Dick, Bud and Grace; one daughter, Mary Louise 
Whitney; and one son-in-law, Richard Whitney.

Mary is survived by her children, Peg Whitney of Greenville, Judie and Tim 
Belen of Westphalia; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 17 great-
great-grandchildren.

Funeral and committal services are 1 p.m. Friday at the Johnson-Feuerstein 
Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor William Overton officiating.  Interment will 
be Otisco Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. 
Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 
or a charity of ones choice.
