Ellis, 82, widow of A.A. Ellis, former Ionia attorney and attorney-general of the State of Michigan, died Wednesday evening at her home in Grand Ledge. Mrs. Ellis has been critically ill for the past week and for some time had been in failing health due to the ravages of age. Mrs. Ellis was born near Grand Ledge and lived for many years in Muir and in Ionia, where her husband practiced law. She was prominent in Ionia church and social circles and was a talented artist, many paintings of child life and pastoral scenes bearing the impress of her art. She was associated with Mrs. H. B. Webber for many years in her art work while a resident of Ionia. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis owned the home now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Howard on East Main street. Their two sons, George and Howard, who grew to manhood, both have preceded her in death. Surviving are a brother and a sister, Newton A. Nichols and Miss Vine Nichols, of Grand Ledge, and a brother, George E. Nichols, of Ionia; two grandchildren, Holmes Ellis, a student at the University of Michigan, and Enid Ellis, of Grand Rapids, the children of Howard Ellis. Funeral services will be conducted at the home of her sister in Grand Ledge, 332 East Jefferson street, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment will be made in Highland Park cemetery, Ionia.
