Ellison, who died at the home of her son-in-law, Fred Hunter of Keene, Wednesday morning, was born in Montgomery county, New York, August 5th, 1828. Her maiden name was Julia A. Snyder. In 1845 she married Jonathan Ellison of Herkimer county, New York, and in the spring of 1846 they started for Michigan and arrived in Ionia county after a wearisome trip of over a month. The settled on section 30 in the township of Easton, where they remained till Mr. Ellison’s death in 1896, and were Mrs. Ellison has lived most of the time since his death. Twelve children were born to them, nine of whom are still living. They are, William V., and J. Albert, and Annie, wife of Harvey Brown, Nina, wife of Fred Hunter, all of Keene township; Warren, N. B., and Samuel, of Easton, and Addie B., wife of Fred C. Lee, and Esther, wife of George W. Potter, of Saranac. It is a matter of general comment among the friends and acquaintances of the deceased that she was one of the most industrious, energetic and successful pioneers of the Grand River valley.
