Ellison known to Ionians as Miss Clara Newton, died at her home in Easton, Saturday, March 30th, 1912, of tuberculosis. She was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Newton, of this city and was born May 5, 1889, in the town of Easton, Ionia Co. She united with the Dildine M. E. church at the age of ten. After attending the public schools and graduating from the County Normal here she taught a few terms in the district schools near the city. The funeral services were largely attended on Tuesday afternoon at the M. E. church in Ionia. A song service was held at the home in Easton at eleven o'clock and the service held afterwards in the church, was conducted by Rev. M.M. Callen, D. D. Those who attended from outside the city were: Mrs. Lee Haynor, Milbrook; Mrs. Blanche Perine, Michigan City, Ind., Mrs. E. E. Bixby, and daughter, of Flint; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Anderson, Stockdale, Ill., Torry Newton and daughter, Mrs. Kayner, of Hudson; Mr. and Mrs. Cicero Torrey of Blissfield, Michigan. The pall bearers were John Ellison, Floyd Ellison, Ray Hoskins, L. G. Hunter."
