The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Monday, November 9, 1942
Edward J. Elvert, 64, died suddenly Sunday morning at 2:30 o’clock at his home 
north of Muir, of a heart attack.  He had gone to bed in apparently good 
health and was planning to spend Sunday at the home of his brother, Fred 
Elvert, of Muskegon Heights.  Death came while he was sleeping.  Born October 
14, 1878, he was the son of John and Margaret Elvert who lived west of 
Tremaynes Corners, in Berlin township.  June 28, 1905 he was married to Lulu 
Townsend of Orange township and for the past 37 years the couple have made 
their home on a farm near Muir.  He was a member of the North Plans Union 
church and a director of his school district. 

Surviving him besides his wife Lulu are two daughters, Mrs. Lylia McGreary and 
Mrs. Lucille Pierce, both of Ionia; three brothers, Fred Elvert of Muskegon 
Heights, Arthur Elvert of Portland, and Frank Elvert of Detroit.  Funeral 
services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock war time at the farm home 
near Muir.  Rev. Paul Stewart will officiate and burial will be in Tuttle 
cemetery.  The body will repose at the Shaw-Rivett funeral chapel.

Subsequent Publication – Wednesday November 11, 1942

Funeral services for Edward J. Elvert, 64, who lived north of Muir, were held 
Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the farm home.  Rev. Paul Stewart officiated 
and burial was in Tuttle cemetery.  Pall bearers were Melvin Burtraw, John 
Chase, Burdette Brigham, Austin Hayes, William Bennett and Ernest Chase.
