Ely, 81, died unexpectedly Saturday at her home at 138˝ East Main Street. She was born May 26, 1881 in Elm Hall and moved to Muir with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles D. Smith in 1883. After graduation from Muir high school, she was married to Bernard R. Ely, June 3, 1903 and came to Ionia to make her home. Mr. Ely, who was employed as clerk and agent of Grand Trunk Railroad 38˝ years, died January 14, 1941. Mrs. Ely was a member of First Presbyterian church, Women’s association of the church and Martha circle. She is survived by four nieces, Mrs. S. W. Allgier of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. E. H. B. Mueller of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. G. A. Rawling of Traverse City, and Mrs. Jess N. Rosenberg of Berkley, Calif. Funeral service will be at 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at Myers funeral home with the Rev. Wilfred G. Sawyier officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at North Plains cemetery. A memorial fund for the church has been established.
