Bertha (Wetherbee) Emelander, age 90, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 
Metron of Belding.  She was born on August 19, 1914 in Portland, MI the 
daughter of Frances and Julia (Potter) Wetherbee.  Mrs. Emelander attended 
Ionia Public Schools.  Bertha married Tony Emelander on December 21, 1935 in 
Grand Rapids, and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1971.  She was also 
preceded in death by 4 sons, Lawrence, Jerry, Roger and Ronald Emelander; son-
in-law, George Colwell; daughter-in-law, Wanetta Emelander; parents; 4 
brothers; 7 sisters.

Surviving are her daughter, Janet Colwell of Ionia; son, James (Katy) Emelander 
of Ionia; daughters-in-law, Joyce, Jane and Cheryl Emelander; sister-in-law, 
Anna Wetherbee of Grand Ledge; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 15 
great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Darren Tharp Pastor of the 
Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2005, at the 
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.  Interment will follow 
at Balcom Cemetery, Ionia.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home 
from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.  For those desiring, memorial contributions 
may be made to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, or to Hospice of Michigan, 
1260 Elkhart NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525, in memory of Mrs. Bertha Emelander.
