Gerald (Jerry) Emelander went home to be with the Lord Aug. 15, 2002.  He was 
born March 22, 1939 in Ionia, the son of Tony and Bertha (Wetherbee) Emelander.

Jerry was employed by the Ionia County Road Commission for 37 years until 
retiring in 1999.  He loved deer hunting every year with his son, Kip, and 
enjoyed talking about his hunting experiences with his many friends.  Fishing 
was another one of his favorites.

Jerry’s special quality of kindness and caring was felt by everyone who knew 
him.  Jerry was always there for everyone who needed him.  He worked hard his 
entire life and never complained.  He will be sadly missed and we are very 
proud to have had this time on Earth to know him and love him.  We love you 
Jerry, Jane, Kim, Scott, Kip, Trina, Chad, Sheryl and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jane; daughter, Kim (Scott) 
Mailand of St. Johns; son, Kip (Trina) Emelander of Hudsonville; step-son, Chad 
(Sheryl) Wickerink of Orleans; grandchildren, Preston and Stevie Mailand, Stacy 
Wickerink, Laura and Cypress Condon; mother, Bertha Emelander; brothers, 
Lawrence (Wanetta) Emelander and Jim (Katie) Emelander; one sister, Janet 
(George) Colwell; sisters-in-law, Cheryl and Joyce Emelander; many nieces, 
nephews and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Tony; brothers, Roger and Ronald; and 
step-daughter, Tonya Wickerink.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the Lake Funeral Home in 
Ionia with Rev. Fox officiating.  The family will receive friends and relatives 
from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.   
Memorial contributions may be made to families’ wishes.
