He was born March 8, 1921 in Ionia, the son of George and Effie (Bloomer) Emelander. He was a WWII veteran. He worked for the Ionia County Road Commission from 1942 to 1950, worked for Gibson’s from 1946 to 1955. He farmed Easton Township since 1951. He married Beatrice Rowley in Saranac on Sept. 8, 1969. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice of Easton Township; two sons, Garret and Catherine Emelander of Belding and Donald Emelander of Belding; stepchildren, Charles and Diane Dalton of Woodmere, Jerry and Karen Veltman of Arizona; Jean Elliston of New Mexico; Nancy Moore of New Mexico, Mary Mileski of Saranac and Judy Conner of Saranac; foster daughter, Gloria Espinzoa of Chicago; two sisters, Susie Manline of Ionia and Ann Wetherbee of Ionia; 26 grandchildren, 47, great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Jake, Dowie and Tony; two sisters, Jessie Thomas and Jennie Matkoski. Funeral services for Emelander will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Donald Wells and Pastor James Micheff officiating. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice. Envelopes are available at the Lake Funeral Home.
