Sentinel-Standard - Monday, Jan. 29, 1934

George Emelander, 54 years old, Berlin township farmer died Saturday afternoon. 
He had been in the hospital  at Ann Arbor for some time but had returned to 
Ionia and was able to be abut until the past week.

He was born in Holland and came to Kent county when young. He moved to a farm 
in Berlin township about 20 years ago where he had lived until recently. His 
wife died three years ago. Surviving are his children, Dawy, of Traverse City, 
Mrs. Claude Thomas, Harry, Jacob,  Anthony, Mrs. George Hanline, Dennis, Anna 
and George Jr., of Ionia. His mother, Mrs. Susie Emelander of Hudsonville, and 
seven brothers and sisters, Benjamin, David, Jacob and John, all of 
Hudsonville; Mrs. Morris Shattuck and Mrs. Ray Gibbs of Portland, and Mrs. 
Harold Neighbor of Grand Rapids. There are six grandchildren. Funeral services 
will be held at the Stone funeral home on East Washington street, Monday at 2 
o'clock. Burial at Balcom cemetery.
