She had been sick for several months. Funeral services conducted by Rev. L. M. Rigelman, were held Sunday afternoon at the home of her father, Charles Hyland, where the body was brought Friday. Besides the father, she is survived by the husband; one son, N. Z. Shattuck; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle DeleVergne; three brothers, Ward, Eston, and Fay Hyland. Dale E. Hyland, for whom the local American Legion post was named, was killed in the First World War. Bearers were selected from that organization and were F. A. Wheeler, Harry Owen, James Iiams, Oliver Tschopp, Kent Cotton, and Ben Sykes. Burial was made in Portland cemetery. When in Portland Mr. and Mrs. Emerick were employed by the Ypsilanti-Reed Furniture Co. After moving to Howard City, they purchased property there and were engaged in tourist cabin business in which they were very successful. John Emerick and Michael Emerick, both of Boonton, New Jersey, brothers of Walter Emerick, came to Portland for the services.
