Mrs. Emmons Expired Tuesday – Another Pioneer Called Home. Mrs. Mary Emmons died at her home on Front street, Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock. She was taken sick about six weeks ago and for the past three weeks it was known that she could not recover. Death came peacefully and she was ready to meet the grim reaper. Mrs. Emmons would have been 71 years old if she had lived until Saturday. She was born in England and when seven years old came to Canada. After her marriage with Hiram Emmons they came to Michigan and settled in Grattan on the farm now occupied by John Emmons, five miles west of this city over forty-five years ago. Fifteen years ago they moved to this city. She was a member of the Baptist church and a lady of beautiful character. She leaves three sons, John, Urla and Ray Emmons. Her funeral was held at the church this afternoon, Rev. R.A. McConnell preaching the sermon at her request. His text was “Be thou faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of life.” Rev. 2:10. The remains were laid beside those of her husband and daughter in the Ashley cemetery.
