Emmons, one of Ionia's heroes, who went to Cuba with Co. I. He was buried with the customary military honors. The company marched to the home of the mother of deceased of North Jefferson street, accompanying the remains to the church, being escorted from the corner of Jackson and Main by 35 members of Wm. H. Borden post No. 211, G. A. R. and the Ionia City band. Co. I furnished the pall-bearers, Perry Cummins, Joe Kalkofen, John Lyon, Charles Bouk, May Fenderson and Robert Banhagel; also the guard of honor, Charles Rice, James Sparks, Claude Lane, Henry Burleigh, Bert Shattuck, Frank Lowrey, Archie Burkett and Earl Eavey. The casket was covered with lilies and roses from friends, and a beautiful floral piece from the company. Capt. F. D. Curtis was in command of the company, and Lieut. Harley of the guard of honor. Lieut. Lawless also marched with the company. At the church Rev. G. K. Berry, of the Church of Christ, officiated, and the music was rendered by Mrs. H. J. Horrigan, Miss Grace Allured and Mrs. J. B. Chaddock. The age of deceased was 24 years and six months. He recovered from the Cuban fever sufficiently to be around, but about a month ago was again taken ill, and finally succumbed Sunday to the prevailing epidemic. The interment was in Highland Park.
