Ionia Sentinel Standard, 10 Apr 1984

Roland P. Endres, 63, of Ionia, died early Monday morning at his residence.  He 
was born in Detroit on November 17, 1920, to John and Elizabeth Leonard 
Endres.  The family moved to Ionia where he attended school.  He graduated from 
SS. Peter and Paul High School with the class of 1939.

He entered the U. S. Navy in 1940 serving during WWII in European African 
Middle Eastern area and in Asiatic Pacific area.  He was awarded two Bronze 
Battle Stars.  He served on the U.S.S. Alabama.  He was discharged from the 
service in 1946.

He worked for many years as a Merchant Seaman aboard an ore carrier on the 
Great Lakes.

He was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Church, the American Association of 
Retired Persons, Mitchel-Bently VFW Post 3732, Leroy Dausman Post of the 
Saranac American Legion, a 40-year member of the Ionia Moose Lodge 998, the 
Ionia Elks Lodge 548, and the U.S.S. Alabama Crewmens Association.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Elliott on April 6, 1978.  
Surviving are two close friends; Mrs. Eva Serr and Mrs. Grace Brown both of 
Ionia.

Funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the SS. Peter and Paul Church 
in Ionia with Rev. Father Thomas Bolster celebrant.  Interment will be in Mt. 
Olivet Cemetery.  Scripture rosary will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Leddick 
Funeral Home.  Friends and relatives may visit the funeral home on Wednesday 
from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  A memorial has been established for the SS. Peter and 
Paul Church.  Contributions may be left at the Leddick Funeral Home.
