Greta was born in Hastings on January 20, 1924, a daughter of the late Ilene (Gillespie) and William Cogswell. Greta was raised in the Hasting's area and attended local schools graduating from Hastings High School. She continued her education at Western Michigan University where she graduated with a bachelors degree in education. After finishing her education, Greta and a few of her friends packed up and headed to Florida, where they tried out for an all women's major league baseball team. When Greta returned home, she began teaching at a one room school house just outside Hastings before being married to Benjamin Endres. Greta willingly left her profession to work alongside her husband to established the family farm in the Freeport area, where they raised their family together. Greta loved the "farm life", and enjoyed helping her son train Boston Terrier dogs for 4-H and other K-9 competitions. She also loved her horses and spending time on Algonquin Lake. Greta's greatest joy was taking care of her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed an afternoon fishing with her husband. Greta is survived by her son, Darrel (Ronda) Endres; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was receded in death by her beloved husband, Benjamin in 2001; her son, Dan Endres; her great-grandson Austin, along with five sisters and two brothers. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at the Daniels funeral home in Nashville. There will be a time of fellowship and light luncheon immediately following the memorial service from 5-7 p.m. at the Daniel Funeral Home in Nashville. Interment will take place privately at Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.
