Mr. and Mrs. John Endress have long been residents of the city, their home being at 350 Center street. Mr. Endress went to church Friday evening, his wife remaining at home. He returned home and was there with his wife and son William. Mrs. Endress was up during the day and helped with the work. In the evening she spoke of not feeling quite well and at about nine started to go to bed. It was at this time that she was troubled with a pain and the doctor and Fr. McCarthy were sent for. She asked Will to raise her up. He did so and she died in his arms. Mrs. Endress’s maiden name was Tennis. She was 48 years of age, Dec. 26, 1911, and was married to Mr. Endress in Grand Rapids. He has worked in the Pere Marquette shops for the last twelve years and their home on Center street has been for the last two years. The family is highly esteemed and the death is deplored by many friends. The surviving members of the family are the husband and four children. The children are two sons, William and Stephen, and two daughters, Frieda and Emma. Mrs. George Wendall, a sister of Mr. Endress, and Miss Wendall were attending the oratorical contest at the Baptist church and just before the close of the entertainment were called out, when they were informed of the misfortune.
