Earl was born in Hastings on June 24, 1920 to Earl, Sr. and Rosa (Norton) Engle. He was Valedictorian of his class at Hastings High School. Earl married Stella Jordan on November 12, 1944. He had farmed on Woodland Road for many years and served as the Postmaster of Woodland from 1965 to 1986. He had been very active in the Democratic Party in Barry County. Earl took it upon himself to restore and care for the Mauch Cemetery on Brown Road, which has since been cared for by Woodland Township. Earl is survived by his sons, Jerry and Carol Engle of Lake Odessa and Jeffrey and Kathleen Engle of Woodland; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Estle Engle of Cadillac; sister-in-law, Alice Morrow of Lake Odessa; and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 49 years, Stella; and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Koops Funeral Chapel with his nephew Sterling DeMond officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
