He was born June 26, 1945 in Hasting's, MI to Earl and Stella (Jordan) Engle. He was raised on the 1893 Jordan Family Centennial Farm, attended Woodland Public School, and graduated with Lakewood Schools first class in 1963. Jerry served in the US Navy as an airplane mechanic, then worked for Michigan Bell/Ameritech as a telephone installer and repairman, retiring early, at age 50, to start his own business, Midstate Communications with partner, Paul Eddy. Later he worked for Practical Rehabilitation Services one day a week. He married Carol Swiler on April 26, 1969, had two daughters, and enjoyed a 56 year marriage filled with travel and amping adventures across the US, Canada and beyond. Jerry was active in the community, serving on the Lake Odessa Village Council, Lions Club, Lakewood Habitat, Woodland Township Board, Lakewood Wastewater Authority and was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was known for his generosity witty humor, storytelling, and involvement with family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Stella Engle; his in-laws, Harold & Marjorie (Aves) Swiler, brother-in-law, Wayne Swiler, sister-in-law, Linda (Swiler) Fox, as well as several other close friends and family members. He will be greatly missed by his loving family, wife Carol; daughters, Marcie (Shelby) Pinkston, Lorie (Austin) Morse; brother, Jeff (Kathy) Engle; sister-in- law, Pam (Warner) Swiler, Doris (Swiler) Sutton; brother-in-law, Jon Fox and many other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Alzheimer's Association, Zion Lutheran Church, or organizations he supported. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church, 6261 Velte Rd, Woodland,MI. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., the service, 11 a.m. and a luncheon following in the Fellowship Hall.
