All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Maureen Cross mcross3454@gmail.com April 29, 2020, 1:43 pm Lake Odessa Wave FORMER WOODLAND COUPLE AND TWO CHILDREN PERISH Four bodies, all wearing life jackets, found washed ashore near Muskegon Sunday were later identified as Earl Enness Jr., 34, a Kalkaska executive, formerly of Woodland; his 33 year old wife, Marlys, and their children, 7 year old Alan and 6 year old Carrie Sue. Bits of wreckage from their 30 foot cabin cruiser were also found along the shoreline. It was not immediately determined how the boat broke up, but the Coast Guard said it was investigating the possibility of a small explosion. The Enness family left Grand Haven at 10 a.m. Saturday after spending the night aboard the boat and headed for Charlevoix but apparently went only about 25 miles before the accident. Enness, a prominent industrialist at Kalkaska, was a former owner and at the time of his death, manager of the American Made Veneer Co. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Enness Sr., who reside on Saddlebag Lake Road, east of Woodland and a brother of Mrs. Marvin (Ella) Kantner. Mrs. Ennss is survived by three sisters, Mrs James Jones and Mrs. Belda Schapf, both of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. James Carroll of Denver, Colorado.; three brothers, Don Netherda of Placerville, Calif., and Clarence and Elwyn Netherda, both of Seattle; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Netherda of Seattle, and her maternal grandfather, Tony Hallman of Seattle. Joint services were held at 1:30 Thursday at the Pickens Funeral Home in Lake Odessa, with Rev. Ronald Hoffman officiating. InIerment was in Lakeside Cemetery.
