Ertl, 50, of 212 East Washington street, member and vice chairman of the Ionia County Memorial Hospital board of trustees were Monday at 12 noon from SS Peter and Paul Catholic church. Mr. Ertl died Saturday afternoon in St. Mary's hospital in Grand Rapids following a short illness. He was bornin Milwaukee, Wisconsin October 3, 1927, the son of George and Mathilda Ritzinger Ertl and attended schools in Milwaukee. He graduated from Marquette University. He married the former Carol Gussert October 23, 1954 in St. Michael's church in Milwaukee. Mr. Ertl was employed as corporate controller for A. O. Smith Corporation for 13 years; at Gulf and Western Corporation in Grand Rapids and, at the time of his illness, was assistant treasurer and corporate controller for Rospatch Corporation in Grand Rapids. A member of SS Peter and Paul church in Ionia and the National Association of Accountants, Mr. Ertl was past treasurer of the SS Peter and Paul church council. Harry Larkin, chairman of Ionia County Memorial hospital's board of trustees, said of Ertl, "On behalf of the hospital board, I want to express our sorrow at the death of Jim Ertl." "Jim made a real contribution during his time on the board, serving as vice chairman and head of the finance committee. A good deal of the credit for the improved financial picture at the hospital is the result of his efforts." "We deeply regret his death." Survivors include his wife; one son, James G. (Jay) at home; four daughters, Mrs. Curtis (Cathleen) Vellenga of Grand Rapids and Susan, Mary Frances and Karen at home and two sisters, Mrs. John (Delores) Mulvanny and Mrs. Earl (Lucille" Piber of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Rev. Father Henry Dondzila officiated at the services with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Bearers were Alex Sibley, Jack Westover, Richard Christian, Fred Thwaites, Edward Colbert and Erwin Couchman. Memorial funds are established for SS Peter and Paul church and for the Ionia County Memorial hospital. Contributions may be sent to the family home or the Leddick funeral home.
