Ionia County News, 6 Mar 1947

Lewis Essex, 66, died at his home at 231 State St., at 5:30 Sunday morning, 
March 2, after several years of ill health.

Mr. Essex was born in Bushnell township, Montcalm county, June 8, 1881, but had 
lived and farmed in Ionia county for many years.  During the past year he had 
been employed at the Stout Elevator until ill health forced him to retire.

On October 9, 1901, he was married to Miss Elva DeHart of Ionia, who survives 
him.  He also leaves a son, Lyle Essex, Ionia City carrier; two daughters, Mrs. 
Howard Lytle, Ionia, and Mrs. Vern Simmons, Lyons; a brother and sister George 
Essex and Mrs. Cora Hammond, both of Ionia.

Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Wayne Davis officiating 
and burial was in Balcom cemetery.  Bearers were Robert Guernsey, Nelson 
Swinehart, Herbert Ross and Glenn Mason.
