Essington, 56, of Saranac route two, died Wednesday at Belding Community hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born December 27, 1915 at Cabery, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Essington. He attended Ionia public schools and was employed at Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard composing room previous to serving during World War II. He was a member of Ionia Moose lodge and employed in the power plant at Ionia State hospital the past 12 years. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor; three sons, James Essington of Saranac, John Essington at home, Phillip Hilliker of Hastings; two daughters, Mrs. Sheila Moore of Hastings, Marcia Hillaker of Florida; mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Essington of Pewamo; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn McCrumb of Pewamo, Mrs. Arvilla Kissane of Portland; several nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Morris-Roetman funeral home Saranac with burial at Balcom cemetery. A memorial has been established for the cancer fund and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
