Wave, Thurs. July 2, 1970 George Estep Passes Away Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 23, at Leonard-Osgood Funeral Home at Hastings for George Estep, 68, a retired barber. Rev. Earl Gaskill of the Freeport United Brethren church officiated, assisted by Harold Price, with burial in Irving cemetery. Mr. Estep was born in Sebewa township, the son of Bion and Juliet (Webster) Estep and attended Lake Odessa schools. A barber all his life, he learned that trade while serving in World War I and II. Besides owning his own shop, he taught in barber colleges in Phoenix, Ariz. and in Los Angeles, Calif. He had been a resident of Freeport for eight years and while there served as president of the Businessman's Association, on the village council and was instrumental in receiving the annual Freeport homecoming celebration. He and his wife, the former Edna Cisler of Lansing, moved to Hastings about a year ago when he retired. Mr. Estep passed away at Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids. He had suffered a stroke about two weeks before his death. Surviving are his wife and a sister, Mrs. Marie Burdick of Hickory Corners.
