Evans, 84, of Portland died May 23, 1993, at Lansing General Hospital, following a one-week illness. He was born in Danby Township in 1908, the son of George and Anna (Gibbs) Evans. He married Angela Evans November 19, 1932. A life-long Ionia County farmer, Evans served Danby Township as supervisor from 1947 to 1992, a span of 45 years. He also served seven years on the Ionia County Soil Conservation board, committed 10 years to the Portland Farming Cooperative, assisted the Ionia County Equalization Board for four years, acted as city assessor in Portland for four years, and held the position of Justice of the Peace in Danby Township for three years. Surviving are his wife, Angela; son, Gordon (Alvena) Evans of Holly; and grandson, Scott Evans of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas, and granddaughter, Cynthia. Memorial services were held May 26 at Danby Township Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Danby Township Hall parking lot fund or to the Portland Seventh-day Adventist Church.
